About Me 

 

I have over 20 years of experience in technical communication; writing and developing information for software products in the cognitive computing, technical publication, media sales, industrial automation, simulation, and pharmaceutical industries. I am a Fellow and  Past President of the Society for Technical Communication, and have presented talks at the STC Summit, WritersUA, tcworld, ProComm, CIDM, CPTSC, and LavaCon on many topics, including GitHub, presentation skills, responsive design, embedded help, tools and technologies, user assistance design, single sourcing, wikis, social media, agile, and convergence technical communication. I have been published in STC's Intercom, tcworld magazine, ISTC Communicator, TechCom Manager Newsletter, and the WritersUA and the Content Wrangler websites. I am a Certified Online Training Professional (by the International Council for Certified Online Training Professionals). Additionally, I have taught Technical Writing at the Community College of Allegheny County.

 

I focus on providing information that improves the user experience. I have developed and delivered training classes, created videos and blogs, delivered webinars, and hosted a podcast series.

 

Before serving as President of STC, I served as an STC Director-At-Large for five years.  I am a past president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of STC and have won multiple STC competition awards. I have served as an STC International Student Technical Communication Competition judge, an STC Pittsburgh Technical Publications judge, and as a reviewer for the STC Summit and the Technical Communication journal. I was the Co-Chair of the STC 2019 Summit and am currently the Manager of the Women in Tech Comm SIG. I earned a BA in journalism from the Pennsylvania State University, where I was a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha honor society and the University Scholars Program.
